SUMMER CHORAL WEEK

Saturday 15th to Friday 21st July, 2017

directed by
MALCOLM ARCHER
with DAVID BEDNALL (organ)
and HILARY JONES (vocal coach)

AIMS OF THE CHORAL WEEK

  • to study and perform choral works by Jean Langlais, his contemporaries, those who influenced him and those he has influenced, together with some of the best music of the Anglican tradition
  • to bring experienced singers together in the Breton village where Langlais was born
  • to work intensively with living composers who are professionals of the highest calibre
  • to perform in three events during the Langlais International Festival 2017

STRUCTURE OF THE CHORAL WEEK

There will normally be two rehearsal periods each day at 3 rue de Moulin, la Fontenelle. We have been invited to sing Sunday morning mass at the church in la Fontenelle and we shall perform in two concerts in Saint-Briac-sur-Mer and La Fontenelle.  Vocal coach Hilary Jones will be giving whole choir warm-up sessions each day and she will ‘voice’ the choir. Each participant is also entitled to a 20 minute individual lesson with Hilary (included in the course fees, but you can opt out), and singers may book additional half-hour (£20) or hour-long (£40) sessions with her during the week.  There will also be lectures given by the choral week leaders.

We will be focussing on the following works (subject to amendment):
